King's Cross is arguably the London neighbourhood that has changed the most in recent decades. Now home to stylish shops and buzzy eateries, the area has shed its gritty veneer but retains stacks of history and character. This is my one-day guide to King's Cross, from its industrial heritage and cultural gems to its thriving dining scene.

Tasting the 'Best of British' on a Borough Market Food Tour
I've lived near London's Borough Market for 13 years and often visit for a bite to eat. I've always wanted to take a food tour to get an expert's take on the best things to eat and drink and learn more about the market's storied history, so I was delighted when Eating Europe invited me to experience one of their London food tours.

Frida Kahlo x Santiago Lastra — Mexican Art and Food at the Tate Modern
Of all the countries I've visited, Mexico is the one I'm keenest to return to. How To Spend a Perfect Day in Notting Hill
Colourful houses, a world-famous carnival and market and, of course, a film with a certain H. Grant and J. Roberts. These are just a few of the images London’s Notting Hill conjures up. But there’s a lot more to the neighbourhood than elegant architecture and *that* movie. My one-day itinerary will help you uncover Notting Hill’s rich cultural and social history, and make the most of its excellent dining and shopping.

Since I moved back to London 15 years ago, I've spent a lot of time eating my way around the city's increasingly diverse restaurant scene. To help me keep track, I started jotting down my favourites in a Moleskine notebook, which eventually evolved into a Google Sheet and then a blog post in 2016. An update was long overdue and here it is: my 50 favourite restaurants in London.

Where To Eat and Drink on Bermondsey Street (Updated 2026)
Bermondsey is one of London's best neighbourhoods for foodies. Yes, I'm biased: I've lived in the area since 2012. Nicknamed 'London's larder', Bermondsey is home to Maltby Street Market and Spa Terminus, where you can sample everything from kimchi to comté. But if you're looking for a restaurant or bar, look no further than Bermondsey Street. And if you're looking for a guide to the best places to eat on Bermondsey Street, you're in the right place.

The Caffeine Chronicles: Nagare Coffee
Sometimes a new specialty coffee shop opens that just has it all: warm hospitality, beautiful design, a relaxed atmosphere and, of course, excellent coffee. Nagare Coffee, which opened in Spitalfields at the end of January, lives up to all of these, and both of my visits so far have been a pleasure.

As 2022 draws to a close, it's time for the 12th edition of my annual specialty coffee and food awards, where I share my favourite coffee shops and eateries from among all of those that I visited for the first time this year. Over the past few years, I've tweaked the geographical boundaries of some awards to reflect my travel schedule, which has changed somewhat as a result of COVID.

The Caffeine Chronicles: Host Café
There are a whole host of excellent specialty coffee shops in the City of London these days but somehow it's taken me a decade to visit Host Cafe, which opened up inside the Church of St Mary Aldermary in 2012. In my defence, it's closed at weekends and I'm blessed with very few free weekdays in London. And when there's been a church on the site for over 900 years, what's another few months?

The Caffeine Chronicles: Story Coffee, Wandsworth
I never could get the hang of Wandsworth. Like Southwark, it's a London borough and a district, which confused me. In any case, that part of south-west London is poorly connected to my part of south-east London. This is a long-winded way of saying that it's taken me longer than it should have to visit Story Coffee's Wandsworth location. But I'm very glad I did!
